A few personal tidbits
One of my readers suggested that I tell you guys a little bit more about myself - to put a human face on the cold science of psychometrics, as it were. I had avoided displaying any personal info when I began this blog, under the theory that no one except stalkers would want to know about that stuff. Now, I think some readers might actually be interested, and I don't really care if they're stalkers as long as they link to me. Hits are everything, you know.
Anyway, here's where I woke up this morning, in the house that I'm currently renting. I can't wait to get out of there - I'm moving next month. Yeah, the house is cute and all, but the problem is, that photo is actual sized. Seriously. The whole place is less than 700 square feet, and no room is wider than 10 feet. This would be fine for a single minimalist, but I'm no minimalist. I own, in addition to every book ever sold and every kind of cosmetic ever marketed, a queen-sized bed, a giant 1970's blonde wood wall unit, an antique teacup collection, and a huge oil painting of the Pink Panther smoking a cigarette and drinking a can of beer (A family heirloom, by the way. The painting, not the beer.) What's more, the neighborhood is so nice that it's become trendy, and housing prices have gone through the roof (which is in dire need of repair). So I just bought another house, a few miles away, that's twice the size and less than 1/3 the price of my current house, which just sold. I pity the person who bought it.
Here's who I see when I wake up in the morning - one petulant little cat, and one inscrutable ball python (not a boa; the photo was mislabeled). It's nice to have another little heartbeat or two in the room, cold-blooded though they may be.
Rachel's is the band I was listening to while getting ready this morning. They're an incredible, unusual instrumental ensemble - smooth, but with an edge. "Subversives with a cello" is one description of them. I've no interest in their politics, but that's the great thing about instrumental music - the musicians can't exactly beat you over the head with their viewpoints.
Finally, I'm wearing jewelry designed by Barbara Theurer. I love costume jewelry, and her beaded designs are fantastically beautiful and affordable to boot. She's also one of the nicest persons I've ever met - if you order one pair of earrings from her, you've got a friend for life. She makes things to order for me, but she has a lot of pretty necklaces available for sale all the time; her lampwork beaded pieces are particularly stunning. Go check her out.
And now, on to work (not blogging). I'll check back in with some postings later in the day.
